Nanette earned her Bachelors degree in illustration from
the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in 2000. She received
awards and scholarships for her extraordinary work along
the way. In the summer of 1998 Nanette spent one month in
Ireland broadening her horizons by studying photography
and writing. Her time at the Burren, in Ireland, was an
awakening of the soul; a definite turning point where she
realized what she wanted to do with her talents.
During her final year at MIAD, Nanette's love of
illustrating children emerged. Her goal is to capture a
moment in time, and bring the viewer into that moment every
time they look at the piece. The illustration of Nanette
Luy carries with it passion and enthusiasm that is easily
felt by the viewer. Her soft, realistic style truly captures
the essence of her subjects. The warmth, and emotion that
is evident in Nanette's illustration is a reflection of
her outlook on life. She is ever striving to perfect her
craft; to bring her illustrations to life and enwrap the
viewer within that one moment in time.
Since graduating, Nanette has been commissioned for several
portrait pieces that have truly embodied the spirit and
joy of childhood. In addition to portraits of children,
Nanette also embodies childhood by painting beautiful murals
for children's rooms. The happiness that is felt by a child
surrounded by their dreams is truly rewarding. In contrast
to childhood imagery, Nanette has also immortalized those
who have passed on. Several of her commissioned portraits
have been a request to honor those that we have lost.
Nanette runs her business out of her home studio in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin. Her free time is dedicated to her three children,
her husband, two dogs and two cats.
